Cave City

Yesterday was my day off and had planned on going to Huber's Winery, but just couldn't force myself to deal with the traffic to Indiana.  I had heard about a little Haunted Hotel in Cave City, KY that also offered black light mini golf and decided that was a better destination.  I was correct.

I had been wanting to visit Cave City for a long time, but for some reason or another I hadn't made it there.  After about an hour and a half on I-65 S, we got off on exit 53 and I immediately knew what all the fuss was about.  It's a giant playground in the form of a quaint little city with tons of oddities all off one exit.  You can visit Dinosaur World and see life size dinosaur statues for $12.75.  You can also visit the The Alpine Slide  where you take a chairlift ride to the top of a mountain then get in a sled and ride down a 1/4 mile slide with twists and turns to the bottom of the mountain for $5.  In the same area as the Alpine Slide is a go kart track, bumper cars, bumper boats, and a little horse back riding area.  All in the same stop!  Each $10 or less!  There's also an assortment of tiny little diners or bbq places, general stores, a 50's themed putt putt course, and Wigwam Village....where you can rent out rooms built as teepees.  We visited the  Wildlife Museum filled with the best taxidermy work I've ever seen, and then hit Guntown Mountain's Haunted Hotel and Blacklight Mini Golf.  It was $10 for the Haunted Hotel and it came with free "Haunted" Blacklight Mini Golf.  Amazing.  The Haunted Hotel was scary.  We had no tour guide and it was pitch black and I couldn't see where I was going, feeling my way through corridors and walls while random clowns and ghouls jumped out at us.  There was no bathroom at the Haunted Hotel, but the nice lady offered me a paper towel and told me I was welcome to go relieve myself up the hill.  I LOVE this place.

Joe Ley

Today I finally visited Joe Ley Antiques for the first time.  It was everything I had hoped for.  Eerie dolls that looked as if they belonged in a horror movie, bicycles hanging from the ceiling, and vintage beer signs galore among other treasures.  It was a museum of odd collectibles, and I will definitely be going back.  I didn't buy anything, but going just to look is fun enough for me.  If you're looking for something free and entertaining to do on an early weekend afternoon, I select going to Joe Ley Antiques on Market and just wandering around.

A life size Dorothy from Wizard of Oz

"Composition Mechanical Baby in Highchair-working order"  I don't know what that means or what it does besides look creepy as shit.  I don't want it to move.

Love this guy.

Every good antique store has weird clowns.

Spencer County Fair

My mother recently moved to Spencer County and we decided to check out their fair this year.  With my nieces and nephew in tow, my boyfriend, my mother, my mother's friend Kathy, my sister, and I all ventured to the Spencer County Fairgrounds.  There were mullets galore and ridiculous t-shirts that say things like "SHUT UP AND FISH".  There weren't very many rides, but the few they had were run by tattooed carnies that talked faster than the Micro Machines man.  It rained off and on throughout the evening and every now and then they would stop a ride because of the lightning, but the show went on.  I'm obsessed with fairs and carnivals. They are beautifully American and there's just something very majestic and intriguing about them....especially the small county ones.

These young men were missing parts of their clothes.

I have no words.

I bet I know which poster he wants to win.

You can win your very own rebel flag that says "Redneck" on it.

I would like to know the story about the wig in his back pocket.

Swings.

My nieces.  Leila(left) and Jenna(right).  This was Leila's very first ride ever.

Creepiest kid's ride ever.

Terrifying and awesome.

Derby City Comic Con

This weekend I had an art booth at the very first Derby City Comic Con here in Louisville.  I had a lot of fun, and was entertained with all the costumes and people watching.  Here are a few pictures I snapped with my phone.

An artsy picture of a couple of my prints.....

Wonder Woman.

FINISH HIM!!!!!!.

Tank Girl

I'm actually not sure what this little boy is, but he's cute.

Not a costume.

I called this man Uncle Batman.  His friend was carrying a weedeater for his costume.  Bless them.

Tickled Pink

Today I visited a little antique store called Tickled Pink.  It's full name is Tickled Pink Memorabilia Mall.  It indeed has memorabilia.  The entire house is full of bizarre trinkets and dolls and glassware and all sorts of delightful and odd things.  The man that owns it is extremely helpful and kind, and the prices are very reasonable.  He will even let you browse the garage for more stuff.  He will hand over the garage opener (taped together) and tell you to just push the button.

My boyfriend snuck and bought this cute little owl clock for me when I wasn't looking.

I bought these guys.  The total for both of them was less than $4.
Accidents happen.
